A friend said this in a recent and long overdue catch up. It was his own wording of something he’d read from a skeptic/atheist writer, and as a similarly skeptic type myself, there was something that really resonated with the phrasing.
It’s a nice mix of the belief that we need to question everything and seek clear answers, but at the same time, stay as humble as possible about the prospect of still being wrong. It says to seek certainty, but never stop checking and revising. It says that questions don’t evaporate with answers.
Later in the conversation, on a slightly different topic, the friend also mused about his enjoyment of mentoring and in recruiting and promoting talented people. He went on to explain:
What I look for in people is that they’re really interesting. And interested. Proactive in finding things out and asking questions.
Love this, and how it relates to the earlier thought, and my own recurring theme of questioning everything. Confirmation bias perhaps, but always nice when it comes randomly from a respected source.
