How to do presentations

I was just organising some slides and remembered that I bought the mini edition of How to do presentations by Russell Davies, but forgot to share some of the lovely little details. First off, how little it is. Pocket size.

My hand, fitting the small book in my palm. The cover is brown card with just the HAUDOO! logo top left and the title 'How to do presentations' written in black in the centre.

It’s as if Russell is trying to emphasise that people should have this information close to hand at all times. An attempt to spread the basics wider than his 2021 book Everything I Know about Life I Learned from PowerPoint. The absolute basics being:

  1. Make it big
  2. Keep it short
  3. Have a point
A spread of the book. On the left page is says: And that's it. It's that simple. No more than 6 words per line. No smaller than 30 point type. Divide it into three. Ask for something. On the right page is the list of three basics. Make it big. Keep it short. Have a point

There’s a bit more to quantify the basics, but not a huge amount. It’s a fantastically concise wee volume. With some loving details that make it feel all the more special.

As for point 3, having a point here, I would say go and buy it, but it’s sold out. So maybe just keep your eye on his website for future editions, ask to borrow my copy, or buy his other book. Or, just keep the three points in mind.
