I can’t seem to find any tactical voting sites that are primarily built for Tory voters. Do they feel they’re above it? Maybe they think it’s undemocratic (though, if that was the case they would surely also be for proportional representation)? Are they just resigned to the polls? Here are the sites I can find:
tacticalvote.co.uk – They say:
UNITE AGAINST THE TORIES. Most constituencies can only be realistically contested by two parties. Tactical Vote shows which way you should vote in the 2024 General Election to stop the Tories from getting into power
And for me in Stroud they suggest a tactical Labour vote.
stopthetories.vote – As if not already clear, they say:
VOTE THE TORIES INTO 3RD PLACE
They also suggest a Labour vote for Stroud.
bestforbritain.org – When I found this, based on the name I thought surely it was a Tory tool, but their spiel is pitched a little differently:
We are the researchers, data scientists, strategists, and activists, fixing the problems Britain faces after Brexit.
While that’s not explicitly anti-Tory, it’s still quite clear, and more to the point, I can’t get a single page or theirs to suggest voting blue! For Stroud, it’s Labour again.
The only site I can find that isn’t technically fully anti-Conservative is electionpolling.co.uk which allows you to set your preferences in order to get a personalised tactical vote.
So if I said my 1, 2, 3, Green, Lib Dem and Labour, for Stroud I get a Labour vote suggestion. But if I say I like Reform best and Reform-Classic second, then is changes to a tactical Tory vote.
Seriously though, why no Tory tools in this space? Even after 14 years in control of GDS are they really still that far behind with their own digital transformation?
I got to thinking about these sites again after learning about an even more active tactical voting campaign in South Devon. The South Devon Primary has come out suggesting that left leaning folk, wishing to beat the Torys in this super safe seat, should vote for Caroline Voaden (Lib Dem). They say:
Let’s be clever and vote together
Looking forward to seeing how that pans out.
Good luck everyone. Vote safe tomorrow.
