Very much looking forward to reading The Idiot Brain by Dean Burnett of Brain Flapping fame after hearing about it on the increasingly superb You Are Not So Smart podcast.
The book, and the goal of YANSS, is about revealing the crazy flaws in the ways that our brains work. Flaws that we try to deal with in ourselves, and unconsciously manipulate in others. It’s making me think of the elephant and rider metaphor where the rider represents the conscious controlled processes and the elephant represents all of the automatic processes (the former thinking they are in control, while the latter is an enormous beast that is difficult to steer and coerce without great effort and planning from the rider).
Reminding me too of the classic Don’t Make Me Think.
