Only by reimagining how we approach the design and delivery of place and infrastructure projects can we truly transform productivity and foster the growth our society urgently needs.
Place and infrastructure: thinking about digital transformation in a new way, by Stefan Webb
There are A LOT of good points, statements and rallying-cries in this piece from Stef. In fact, I’d like to see a talk or hear a podcast discussing practically every sentence.
For me, it could also be applied to every sector and not just ‘the realm of built and natural environment and infrastructure’. All realms still need help with the job of redefining, or even just agreeing on existing definitions of what digital and design can do to help.
My main rallying-cry: We need to take more time to agree what a lot of these words mean, and ensure those definitions are shared. The fundamental shift in mindset for me is a semantic one, first. I’m convinced that most of the issues faced by digital and design projects are due simply to misinterpretation and a curse of knowledge.
Who’s expecting what? Who’s promising what?
