Sharing a lot of the questions in Too little, and too much, self-promotion from Manuel Moreale.
Self-promotion is a weird subject. It’s one of those things that is strictly tied to who you are as a person. I am, broadly speaking, a shy and reserved person […] I also really care about other people’s space and time, which is why I’ve always been incredibly conservative when it comes to promoting things I do online.
This, a thousand times.
Which is a funny thing to be ‘blogging and publishing online’, but Manuel’s point is that you have to push and market and make constant noise to actually be heard online, by a larger audience than the slow, organic, and polite RSS types.
That’s the part that feels hard. It’s difficult to push into other people’s space and time and feel good about it.
‘How much self-promotion is too much?’
